Meet the Giba of Giba Group
Elke Giba started Giba Group Marketing and Design in 2010 in order to satisfy a desire to offer marketing and design services to its clients. Giba Group is your marketing partner, a design advocate and consultant for your company, products and services. Your project only really works if it produces the desired results. And that is always the focus at Giba Group Marketing and Design.
Just in case it matters, Mrs. Giba received a Bachelors of Arts from Southern Methodist University with a focus in Communications and Marketing. When she isn’t working, she enjoys walking with her husband and playing with the dog. Dig a little deeper into company owner below.
Where were you born, where do you live, did this affect your design style or sensibilities?
I was born in Southern Illinois, where life is simple and centered around crops and agriculture. This simple approach comes through in the work I produce. I don’t like to complicate the message with elements that are over the top, or crowd out what you are trying to accomplish in a piece. Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. Corn is corn, no matter where it grows.
If you were not a designer, what would you be?
Architecture has always been fascinating. I love to watch construction sites. I see the layers in my head and imagine walls and windows. Besides, I already have pencils and rulers. The geometry might be a challenge.
What is your design process; do you sketch first, got to the computer, or take days off to get inspired?
It depends entirely on the project in front of me. The best way to start a project of significant size is to brainstorm when I am physically doing something else, like drying my hair. That doesn’t require a lot of thinking, so I use that time to solve design dilemmas or map out marketing strategies. Sketching is necessary when I create a logo for a client.
What is your greatest strength and weakness as a designer?
Perfectionism — it is a blessing and a curse. Thankfully, I have learned how to keep it in check to do the best work for a client, but it continues to be a struggle when I am working for myself.
